Last seen together in Stranger Than Fiction, Academy Award winners Dustin Hoffman (Rain Man) and Emma Thompson (Sense and Sensibility) reunite in Last Chance Harvey, a heartfelt romance that celebrates new beginnings—at any age.
New Yorker Harvey Shine (Hoffman) is a washed-up jingle writer on his way out of a job. But he’s also on his way to London for the weekend to attend his daughter’s wedding. Warned by his boss that he has just one more chance to deliver, Harvey promises to be back on Monday morning to make an important meeting—or else.
Upon arriving in England, however, Harvey is devastated to learn that his daughter has chosen to have her stepfather walk her down the aisle. Though he leaves the wedding even before the reception to return to the airport, he misses his flight. And when he calls his boss to explain, he is fired on the spot.
Drowning his sorrows at the airport bar, Harvey strikes up a conversation with Kate (Thompson), an apparently strait-laced forty-something employee of the Office of National Statistics. Sparks hardly fly. But Kate—whose life has been limited to work, the occasional humiliating blind date, and endless phone calls from her smothering mother—finds herself engaging with Harvey, who in turn becomes energized by her intelligence and compassion. As their growing connection inspires them to transform their own as well as one another’s lives, the question arises: Could this be their one last chance at romance?
