Adele (Maria-Victoria Dragus) is a lonely, depressed teenager living on a bleak farm with her cold and unloving parents after her brother’s death. One night, escaped killer Timo (Roeland Wiesnekker) winds up in her room and pleads with her to help get him out of town safely. Adele agrees to do it, but only on one condition: he has to kill her after he’s safe from the law, thus freeing her from her hellish life. She tells Timo she’s tried to do it herself, but just couldn’t manage. As they escape through the German countryside, he’s not exactly at ease with her at first, but she’s finding his company much more comforting than that of her parents.

German director Emily Atef (The Stranger in Me, SDFF 31) has made Kill Me a clever and intriguing road picture. Adele and Timo learn to coexist, discovering intimate things about each other as they evade capture. Their bond is deepened when Adele learns the details of Timo’s case. As their journey continues and they depend on each other for survival, viewers hope that Timo reneges on his end of the deal.
