With divorce papers lying unsigned on his desk, Christian wrestles with the depression and inertia that have overwhelmed him since his wife, Anna, left him and their 16-year-old son in Copenhagen to pursue a career as a sports agent in Buenos Aires. Christian decides to fly to Argentina to try to win her back. He and young Oskar, a budding existentialist, find Anna living in luxury with her buff younger lover, football star Juan Diaz. The couple plan to marry as soon as she’s divorced. The city is in a fever of excitement in anticipation of the SuperClásico, the annual match between BA’s rival football clubs. The dramatic comedy, directed by Ole Christian (“OC”) Madsen, is the first feature film that a Danish crew has shot in Argentina. It was the Danish entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards earlier this year. The fast pace of the teeming city, quick shots of the photos that Oskar is constantly snapping, and a rousing musical score heavy on the tangos show a country whose Latin rhythms contrast jarringly with Christian’s Danish lifestyle. He rants that Argentina is a country of clichés. Madsen said in a press interview that one experiences a “kind of liberation” in Argentina that he deftly conveys in a story about love that is simultaneously light, funny and deeply moving. Madsen’s actors, including Anders W. Berthelsen, who plays Christian, and Paprika Steen as Anna, have a raft of credits and awards in film, theater and TV. Argentine soap heartthrob Sebastián Estevanez makes an impressive film debut as the lovable Juan. - JULIET SHERWOOD Click here for Information on Group Rates and Discounts! Sponsored by:
