When guitarist Matt Berninger invites his younger sibling Tom to join his indie rock band The National on its first world tour, he may not have realized what he was getting himself into. Lovable loser Tom, who prefers heavy metal, brings along a hand-held camera to record life on the road. That’s when the fun begins. Berninger’s documentary is more about sibling rivalry and brotherly love than rock music. In a series of hilarious staged interviews, he asks Matt inappropriate questions and goes to their parents for affirmation of his creativity. After several fiascos and getting fired by the band, Tom eventually reconnects with Matt. Of his film, he says, “It’s about how strange it is to get reacquainted with your brother as an adult … through the lens of a camera.” Berninger even manages to include a small cameo of his hero Werner Herzog in this touching family tribute.
