In conjunction with the Clyfford Still Museum’s Drawing into Painting/Painting into Drawing exhibition, the Denver Film Society and Clyfford Still Museum presents Film/Still: PERSEPOLIS. As with the evolution of sketch drawing on paper to the painted canvas, the genesis of the graphic novel to animated feature film shows the relationship of separate art mediums connected in story and form. A panel featuring local authorities on the graphic novel will follow the screening of PERSEPOLIS wherein the symbiotic nature of the comic-strip format and the moving image will highlight Still’s own process from drawing to painting.
Based on co-director Marjane Satrapi’s acclaimed graphic novels, the award-winning PERSEPOLIS tells the poignant story of a young girl coming-of-age in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. Through the eyes of precocious and outspoken 9-year-old Marjane, we see a people's hopes dashed as fundamentalists take power—forcing the veil on women and imprisoning thousands.
