film/STILL: Lust for Life
USA, 1956, 122 Minute Running Time
7:30 P.M. Thursday, January 10, 2013 Denver Film Center/Colfax
Director Vincente Minnelli's 1956 biopic Lust for Life is arguably the best of several films about the painter Vincent Van Gogh. Based on Irving Stone's romanticized biography of the artist published in 1934, the book was notably followed by a major Van Gogh retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in 1935.
After enjoying the film, join us the following week, January 17th, at the Clyfford Still Museum for a talk with James Naremore that considers the intersection of literature, film and blockbuster museum exhibitions and the influence of popular culture on visual artists from the time period, including Clyfford Still.
