In 1974, Icelandic scholar Siggi Hjartarson received a bull penis as a gag; it inspired him to erect the Icelandic Phallological Museum. For almost four decades Siggi’s collection has grown impressively, housing hamster hard-ons to sperm-whale wieners. Just one mammalian acquisition eluded him: a human specimen.

Icelandic folklore tells of a woman who had grounds for divorce from her three-inch-long husband, setting the national standard to at least five inches, and Siggi maintained that his exhibit would uphold that requirement. He was also obliged by law to have full legal documents from any potential donors. While he waited for his prize, failing health provided a sense of urgency for him to complete his lifelong dream. Two cocksure contestants rose up to the challenge. Nonagenarian Pall Arason was a celebrated adventurer famous for first bringing tourism to Iceland’s highlands—and for having a little black book with over 300 names. Despite his multiple conquests, questions arose as to the senior fitting the five-inch profile. Across the Atlantic, uber-patriotic Tom Mitchell is determined to beat Arason, feeling his lengthy Yank legacy has more to offer. Mitchell preps his piece with a stars-and-stripes tattoo, convinced it will enhance the display and represent his nation fittingly. Soon after, his thirst for fame drives him to offer his up jewels before he dies so he can see them acknowledged by the world as the finest in history.

With beautiful Icelandic locales and plenty of full-frontal footage, Jonah Bekhor and Zach Math’s documentary is sure to arouse discussion.
