From a film-historical perspective, End Of The Line looks a lot like Frankenstein: the mad doctor in this case is Canadian director Maurice Devereaux, who has stitched together a number of barely breathing horror subgenres – the zombie flick, the slasher pic, the apocalyptic disaster fable – and brought, with one long-overdue shot of adrenaline, a whole new monster to life.

Karen (Ilona Elkin), a young nurse at a psychiatric hospital, is beginning to feel like a mental case herself. Lately the wards have been filling with psychotics whose ramblings are too cryptic for her to decipher; and to make matters worse, Karen has learned that just the day before, a former patient whom she had helped rehabilitate went and threw herself in front of a subway car. Flipping through the sketchpad the patient left behind, Karen sees only images of hellish creatures. Are they the fancies of a damaged psyche or a portent of something all too real?

Karen finds out soon enough. As the subway train she's heading home in late that night enters a tunnel, Karen and her fellow passengers find themselves sharing their car with a group of dagger-wielding cultists bent on hastening Judgment Day. But that's not all: it turns out the entire subway line is teeming with demons hungry for innocent souls. With only their wits to protect them, a handful of survivors, Karen included, band together to fight off the forces of evil – not to mention their own worst fears.

Filmed in just a few days for pennies, the nonetheless ambitious End Of The Line will take you for one horrific ride.
