Ivan Dixon and Abbey Lincoln play an unlikely young couple who must confront both the hostility of the outside world to an African-American couple, and the class differences between the two of them. The film is considered one of the finest explorations of African-American life on film – and Malcolm X’s favorite movie. Nothing But a Man provides a sharp and touching look at racial conflict in America at exactly the same time as the integration of Little Rock’s Central High School. Our discussion will focus on the face of bigotry then and now.
