1 source novel x 2 films (1 mother + 1 child + 1 dead body) / 1 film's interesting twist =
1 exciting DOUBLE FEATURE! 1 ticket = 2 films!

The 1947 novel "The Blank Wall" provided inspiration for two film versions of its thrilling tale of a mother who hides a body to protect their child (a teen who was seeing an older man) and the perils that ensue when someone catches on to the plot. Max Ophul's 1947 take called The Reckless Moment casts Joan Bennet as the mother and transfers the story rather directly in its adaptation. Scott McGehee and David Siegel's 2001 version The Deep End played with the source material by changing the gender and sexuality of the teen in trouble (from a hetero girl to a homosexual young man) and placing it in modern times with Oscar-winner Tilda Swinton as the mother. Did the experiment pay off? No need to wonder. Thanks to the advent of Seeing Double you can now compare and contrast with your own eyes!
Special thanks to CBS TELEVISION and COLUMBIA PICTURES for making a rarely screened 35mm print of The Reckless Moment available.
