Colorado Cinema Salon: Stop The Presses!
90 Minute Running Time
Wednesday, June 29th at 7pm at the Denver FilmCenter/Colfax
Stop the presses! The clickety-clack of typewriter keys, the fog of cigarette smoke, the ceaseless roar of the presses, and the cry of harried reporters, “Get me rewrite!” Those are but a few of the images from Hollywood’s long and often revealing love affair with newspapers. Denver Post columnist Mike Littwin and Westword editor Patty Calhoun join curator Robert Denerstein at the FilmCenter/Colfax at 7 p.m. June 29th for a Colorado Cinema Salon that will examine the romantic, cynical and sometimes idealistic ways in which Hollywood has portrayed newspapers. Littwin and Calhoun will share some of their favorites (with clips) and talk about the ways in which these movies both reflect and distort the reality of a great – and now threatened – American institution.
