Colorado Cinema Salon: Oscar Preview
90 Minute Running Time
Wednesday, February 22nd at 7:30pm in Henderson's Lounge at the Denver FilmCenter
Join Cinema Salon curator and moderator Robert Denerstein for a preview of this year's Oscars at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 22, at the FilmCenter/Colfax. Joining Denerstein for an evening of carping, praise and celebration will be Denver Post Film Critic Lisa Kennedy, Starz Denver Film Festival director Britta Erickson (an unabashed lover of Oscar night) and Bob Becker, the best Oscar predictor in the history of the Film Society's pick-the-winners contest. We'll take a crack at predictions, but we'll also talk about the relevance of Oscar in today's film climate and discuss what some regard as the increasingly dull nature of the Oscar telecast. Can this year's host -- Billy Crystal -- put some fun back into an evening that over the last few years seems to have come up short in the magic department? Should the Academy return to the practice of picking only five nominees for best picture? We'll take our best shot at answering these and other questions in an evening devoted to the usual lively Salon conversation about a year in which no picture seems to have emerged as a clear frontrunner.
