Opening Night: Ethel

USA, 2012, 97 Minute Running Time
Genre/Subject: Documentary

Opening Night Film 7pm Tues, March 6th with Reception to Follow
An intimate, revealing portrait of Robert F. Kennedy’s widow, directed by their youngest daughter who was born six months after his death, is a unique installment in the cultural history of this storied family.

Rory Kennedy has produced and directed dozens of social-issue documentaries, but convincing her mother – the notoriously private - Ethel Kennedy to sit down for an interview had to have been no small feat. Proud, vivacious and surprisingly humorous, Ethel , the Kennedy matriarch at 83, is an awe-inspiring subject. Kennedy’s approach is a personal documentary told through never-before-seen images and stories from the family troves that also serve to cover some of the most momentous historical events of the 50s and 60s.

After her husband’s death, Ethel continued his advocacy of civil and human rights, and instilled in her children a unique value system and passion for social-justice. There’s no question that this is a wealthy, privileged family, but more than many others, they have generously and repeatedly given back in a variety of ways. Ethel Kennedy stands as one of our country’s best examples of integrity and hope.
