Digital presentation - Three World War II veterans learn that life back home can also be hell. When a girl is kidnapped by a serial killer in the Nebraska Sandhills, Sheriff Henry Fisher asks his pilot brother, Jack, to fly to the scene where the kidnapper has been discovered hiding in a barn. Jack complies, never guessing what will happen in his small aircraft and the devastating effect it will have on the lives around him.
With a mostly volunteer posse on the scene, a situation that could have been a rescue and arrest instead turns into a shootout. When the one man everyone wanted to die hangs on to life, vigilantism takes over. The two Fisher brothers and their sometimes friend Bob discover that a secret this dangerous can be a powerful force, especially when it’s coupled with issues of infidelity among the three. Bob can’t curb his appetites—a problem in a small town where everyone knows everyone else’s business—and Henry’s wife is a bitter, wild woman already bringing down trouble on her own head. Meanwhile, the brother of the young murder victim becomes embroiled in circumstances beyond his or anyone else’s control, despite Jack’s kindness to him.
Directed by Colorado native David R. Higgins, The Aviation Cocktail was shot in Colorado and Nebraska with a local cast and crew. It was produced by The Pilot's Lounge, an independent Denver production company.
Given the influence of local talent involved - local writer/producer/director, David Higgins and Wilson Helmericks of Snake Rattle Rattle Snake, who provided the soundtrack to the film - OpenAir felt it was only natural to get involved to help raise awareness for this important film. OpenAir host Alisha Sweeney sat down with Higgins and Helmericks prior to the film's premier during the Denver Film Festival last November. Click here to listen to the interview in its entirety.
