French rock star and So Long, Stooge film composer Charlélie Couture will perform a brief solo set after the screening.

Lambert, a burned-out ex-cop who has lost his son to a drug overdose, works the night shift at a gas station. He spends most of his dark and dreary days alone with a bottle, and his life looks like it’s been over for a long time—until a young Arab drug dealer named Bensoussan shows up. The two men hit it off immediately and are soon enjoying a tender father-son kind of relationship. Though Bensoussan’s vocation is problematic, it doesn’t inhibit their friendship at first. As he sinks deeper and deeper into the clutches of the crime syndicate of which he is a part, however, tragedy looms on the horizon. When he is killed right before Lambert’s eyes, the older man finds both the darkest part of himself and the tiniest sliver of hope for a better life. Enlisting the help of one of Bensoussan’s friends, a punk girl named Lola, Lambert makes plans to wreak revenge. As the two risk a vendetta against their own lives, Lola succeeds in cracking the hard shell of this wounded, reclusive man.

So Long, Stooge was directed by French filmmaker Claude Berri and premiered three years before his landmark films Jean de Florette and Manon of the Spring. Berri has been nominated for awards in France, the U.K., and the U.S. for acting, writing, producing, and directing. He won an Oscar for his short Le Poulet, and his Tess was nominated for Best Picture.
