Aux yeux de tous
France, 2012, 85 Minute Running Time
Genre/Subjects: Drama, Political, Thriller
Language: French English Sub-Titles
A terrorist attack in a train station kills 17 people and injures dozens more as surveillance cameras capture images of the suspected bombers leaving the scene. Sam and Nora (Olivier Barthelemy and Melanie Doutey), the duo behind the attack, know the bomb wasn’t supposed to go off, but was to be used only as a warning. They suspect they’ve been betrayed by Otar (Francis Renaud), the man who hired them for the job.
They’re being sent images and videos from the explosion, letting them know they're being watched, but they don’t know by whom. Nerves are frayed, and policewoman Nora, suffering from guilt, wants to turn herself in, but Sam doesn’t want to return to prison. As things heat up and bodies accumulate, it becomes clear that the bombing was intended to affect an upcoming election.
Director Cedric Jimenez has paid homage to George Orwell’s 1984. Big Brother is watching, as the unknown hacker seems to have access to anything, anywhere, and anyone in the new world of the omnipresent camera.
