A collection of short films that include both professional women and student filmmakers. Student entries are from past Denver Film Society's Young Filmmakers Workshops. The professional films are all Denver premieres, and are offered through a partnership with New York Women in Film and Television's program WOMEN CALLING THE SHOTS.

Mission of Mermaids

Synopsis: A poetic ode to the seas and a plea for their protection, this short documentary captures the beauty and tranquility of the ocean. The mermaid archetype draws us into the ocean world and awakens us to action.

Dying and Dinner Parties

Synopsis: Kathleen has been preparing for her own death since ten years ago when she first volunteered for hospice. Even with a terminal illness she continued on with good humor seeing her end as just another thing that happens.

That Which Once Was

Synopsis: In 2032 an eight-year old Caribbean boy, displaced by global warming, fends for himself as an “environmental refugee” in a hostile northern metropolis. Haunted by memories of flooding that left him homeless and orphaned the boy forms an unexpected friendship with an Inuk ice carver who helps him confront his past.

It's Not Saturday

Synopsis: A NY teenager finds himself head of his family with a sick grandma and a little brother. He goes out to panhandle with his saxophone and we discover the power of his music to contribute not only to his family but to the city as well. Starring alto sax monster, Alex Han.

Denver Museum of Nature and Science Teen Scholar Program

Synopsis: A documentary created in partnership between DFS Young Filmmakers Workshop (YFW) alumni and the DMNS. The alumni were invited to follow the DMNS Teen scholars during their 2012 Summer program and document this amazing program for teens interested in science.

Synopsis: Identity and self image is poetically explored by the students of the 2010 DFS Young Filmmakers Workshop.
