VOICES Salon Series I - Using Creativity to Empower
Friday, March 8 at 12:00pm – 12:30pm
"A hunch is creativity trying to tell you something."
-- Frank Capra, American film director
Our first Salon of the Festival will look at the transformative power of creativity, as seen in three films at the festival: Get Together Girls, where in Kenya, there is a tailoring project that has transformed former street girls into fashion designers; Inocente (Winner 2013 Oscar® for Best Documentary Short) for a young homeless girl in San Diego, color is her personal revolution and it sweeps on her canvases to create a world that looks nothing like her own; Julie & Julia, the book “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” by Julia Child, inspired hundreds of people to alter the way they cooked in their kitchens and in particular a young woman named Julie Powell. Joining the discussion will be Vanessa Crocini, Director/Get Together Girls and Yael Melamede, Producer/Inocente. Each of our participants offers a unique and interesting viewpoint, that in the end, we hope inspires you to action, too!
Special thanks to Marczyk Fine Foods for supplying lunch for the Salon!
