Two parents who refuse to live vicariously through their children attend orientation with them at prestigious Middleton College. Finding the tour useless, free-spirited Edith (Vera Farmiga) and straitlaced George (Andy Garcia) stray off the beaten path to explore the campus and their mutual attraction.
The pair’s chemistry embodies a whimsical and candid generational portrait. As Edith and George cause mischief, nail an improvised theater scene, and partake in some reefer madness, they introspectively reevaluate their lives and demonstrate that it is never too late to experience a new beginning.
Shot unbelievably and beautifully in only 20 days by Emmanuel Kadosh (a veteran cinematographer of two other Garcia films, Modigliani and The Lost City), the film uses mostly natural light to showcase its beautiful eastern Washington locations. Tom Skerritt makes a charming appearance as the revered Dr. Roland Emerson, and Farmiga’s sister, Taissa, plays Edith’s overachieving offspring.
We are delighted to have Mr. Garcia, who also served as a producer of At Middleton, attend the screening—and this time we promise him things to do in Denver that don't require being dead! Other cast members also will be present for a Q&A to enlighten us about their filming adventures.
