In Guatemala, one of the most violent countries in the world, political chaos and murder are commonplace. But when prominent lawyer Rodrigo Rosenberg is gunned down just a few meters from home, his death nearly brings down the government. In his feature-length documentary I Will Be Murdered, British director Justin Webster investigates Rosenberg’s murder like a true detective. He weaves bits and pieces of evidence together until the film reaches its shocking conclusion.
A few days before his death, Rosenberg recorded a message predicting it. Once his accusations against President Alvaro Colom hit the Internet, demonstrators took to the streets. A United Nations commission appointed Spanish prosecutor Carlos Castresana to try the case.
Webster carefully tracks Castresana’s pursuit of justice. He includes footage of the crime scene, wiretaps of the hit men planning their next murder, and testimony from Rosenberg’s children, his best friend, his chauffeur, and television reporter Claudia Mendez.
