VOICES: Housekeeping

USA, 1987, 116 Minute Running Time

Q&A with Terry Dodd.
The film Housekeeping, based on the novel by Marilynne Robinson, is set in the Pacific Northwest during the 1950s. Two young sisters—Ruth and Lucille—are abandoned by their mother and wind up living with their Aunt Sylvie, whose views of the world and its conventions don't quite live up the most people's expectations.

Following the film, Lighthouse Writers Workshop's Terry Dodd will discuss the cinematic aspects of the novel, and what Bill Forsyth as director and Christine Lahti as the lead actress each brings to the film.

This screening of Housekeeping is part of Lighthouse Writers Workshop's 2014 Big Read program, a community-wide exploration of the novel and literature's influence on our culture. As Colorado’s nonprofit literary center, Lighthouse's goal is to promote literary engagement, growth, and community between writers and readers through programs including writing workshops, an annual Lit Fest, author visits, and more. www.lighthousewriters.org
