Melinda Barlow Ph.D., Associate Professor of Film Studies, CU Boulder
Co-Programmer of 1959 Film Festival
To kick off the 1959 Film Festival and to introduce Some Like It Hot (Billy Wilder, 1959), the American Film Institute’s number-one comedy of all time, professor Melinda Barlow, Ph.D., will offer a multimedia presentation exploring the major fears, dreams, issues, and events that shaped the tumultuous ’50s. From the postwar hope for peace and prosperity to the growing fear of communist infiltration, from images of sexual and racial repression to the first stirrings of social change, the 1950s were an extraordinary decade that left an enduring imprint on American film.
