Coming Alive

Deja with a serious expression wearing a wide-brimmed hat against a blurred green background

Logline:
One hundred young people take a leap of faith to partake in a radically new solution to the youth mental health crisis.

Long Description:
In this character-driven vérité film, we follow three college-aged characters—Nikita, Deja, and Dylan—who are gripped with extreme depression, anxiety, and loneliness, intimately tracking their fraught and uncertain journey to healing. They are participating in a 48-hour intervention designed to pull people out of spirals of sadness, fear, and isolation, while boosting human connection. The clock is ticking as a team of renegade researchers at Columbia University races to test this novel approach and determine if it’s possible to have long-lasting effects on mental wellbeing—without doctors, pharmaceuticals, or charging people a single dollar.

The intended grantee is vetted and pre-approved by the fiscal sponsor prior to any fundraising for the purposes of the project. So long as the grantee has not breached the fiscal sponsorship agreement, the fiscal sponsor will ordinarily grant the funds raised for the project to the grantee, less some agreed upon amount it retains as an administrative fee. While the fiscal sponsor has the variance power to direct such funds to another organization to advance the same charitable purposes, it has a business reason not to exercise such power except under egregious circumstances.*
