SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, WALTZ WITH BASHIR and THE WRESTLER take home honors at Golden Globes and Critics' Choice Awards

Award season is well under way and the Denver Film Society is proud to congratulate Starz Denver Film Festival picks Waltz with Bashir, The Wrestler, and Slumdog Millionaire on their recent wins at the Critics’ Choice Awards and last night’s Golden Globes.

Waltz with Bashir, which took home the Best Foreign Film honors at both ceremonies, was one of several films featured as part of this year’s focus on animation at the Starz Denver Film Festival.

It was clear from the reactions after the sold out Festival screening that moviegoers were wowed by Mickey Rourke’s stellar turn in Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler. The performance earned him the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama.

SDFF Big Night film Slumdog Millionaire earned director Danny Boyle awards as well as receiving the Best Picture Award from both the Broadcast Film Critics Association and Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The win recalls last year’s Big Night selection, Juno, which garnered its screenwriter Diablo Cody an Oscar and proved that Big Night at SDFF is not to be missed. DFS Members also received a special perk when they were treated with complimentary tickets to the screening.

Combining year-round programming and Festival picks, nearly every film nominated at the ceremonies has screened at the Starz FilmCenter this year including Vicky Christina Barcelona, Happy-Go-Lucky, In Bruges, Rachel Getting Married, The Visitor, Burn After Reading, I.O.U.S.A., Man On Wire, and Standard Operating Procedure as well as the entire Best Foreign Film category at the Critics’ Choice Awards. If you haven’t had the chance to check out nominees Happy-Go-Lucky, Rachel Getting Married, and I’ve Loved You So Long, you can still catch them this week at SFC.
