Chief Administrative Officer


Classification: Full Time/Exempt/Salary

Salary Range: $70,000 – $90,000

Benefits: Paid time off, health, dental and vision insurance plans. Retirement plan established by fall 2021

Location: Sie FilmCenter – 2510 E. Colfax Ave., Denver, CO  80206 and Remote Work

Reporting Structure:

Reports to the CEO.

Supervises the Education Manager, Accounting Manager, Volunteer Coordinator, and Director of Operations


Position Summary: 

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) will be responsible for the day to day operations of Denver Film including the areas of Human Resources, Finance, Technology and Logistics. The CAO will work closely with the CEO, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), and the Programming Team. The Chief Administrative Officer is primarily responsible for organizing, building and directing the Administration and Facilities Team to deliver a strong business and logistics foundation that supports internationally and locally recognized film programming. The goal is to ensure every process and program will be delivered successfully and add value to the organization.


About Denver Film:

The first Denver International Film Festival was successfully launched in May 1978. Three years later, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Denver Film Society was created to expand opportunities to bring films to Denver that otherwise might not be shown, and to celebrate and cultivate film as an art form.  Over the years the organization has grown into one the largest and most respected cultural institutions in the Rocky Mountain region. In 2019, the organization rebranded to Denver Film in an effort to build a more inclusive organization.

This effort continues as we focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility across our wide array of year-round programs including Colorado Dragon Boat Film Festival, Women+Film Festival, CinemaQ Film Festival, CineLatinx Film Festival, Film on the Rocks, and the Denver Film Festival. Denver Film operates the Sie FilmCenter, which is the year-round cinematic home hosting over 800 films, education programs, community conversations, filmmakers from around the world, and special events throughout the year.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategy and Leadership

*Work with other Chief Officers and Programming Team to set a strategic vision for Denver Film that inspires the staff, board and audience to follow and help to implement that vision. 

Finance and Accounting

*Manage and supervise the day-to-day operations in Finance, including the implementation of metrics to determine programming success and to help drive data-driven decision making 

*Oversee money handling, accounting, inventory management and bank processes

*Assist with reporting requirements for the Annual Financial Audit and formulate improvements to organizational systems

*Develop reporting forms and formats to help other branches of the organization make financially prudent programming decisions

Budgeting

*Provide key budgeting input for programming the annual Denver Film Festival, Film on the Rocks, Sie FilmCenter, and Virtual Screenings on Eventive

*Help to create annual budget as well as 5-year budgeting and programming plans to feature annual events and long-term high-impact events

Human Resources

*Update Human Resource requirements and staff benefits 

*Help to create staff development pathways and strategies and delegate with employee growth and contribution in mind

*Build an increasingly diverse team

Technology

*Help to implement best practices in the use of technology to include film projection, computer, and software systems

Contracts and Negotiations

*Review contracts, conduct business negotiations, and create win-win economic relationships with collaborators

Education

*Create and manage an education program for youth summer camps, high school days at the Film Festival, a mobile education program to reach areas outside the metro area, and year-round adult education

Other Duties:

*Identify and share information about potential grantors, sponsors and donors with the CMO and CEO

*Be a professional representative and passionate advocate for Denver Film

*Brief Denver Film staff and BOD after major events regarding goals for the event

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required: 

* A bachelor’s or master’s degree in business administration or non-profit management, or demonstrated experience of managing in this area

* The experience and desire to build, mentor, and lead a diverse team through a collaborative and open management style

* Demonstrated experience developing and adhering to budgets as well as using metrics to determine program success

* Strong foundation of best practices in Human Resources including knowledge of local and national legal requirements

* Excellent command of technology and various software systems and the ability to learn new systems

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office especially Excel and Word

* Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
