ALAN CUMMING TO RECEIVE THE 2011 EXCELLENCE IN ACTING AWARD AT 34th STARZ DENVER FILM FESTIVAL

The Starz Denver Film Festival (SDFF) has announced that actor Alan Cumming will be honored with the 2011 Excellence in Acting Award at the Mayor's Reception on Saturday, November 12.  

 

"We are thrilled to present Alan Cumming with the 2011 Excellence in Acting Award", said Britta Erickson. "Having branched out with over 25 years of bringing characters to life on screen and on stage, he radiates a charm and a presence that makes his large canon of roles, from wide-eyed innocent to devilish villain and nearly everything in between, so much fun to watch. We are excited to welcome Alan to our festival this year to the delight of our audience."  

 

Alan Cumming, the award-winning actor of stage and screen, producer, performer, writer and director, received his second Emmy nomination for his portrayal of a tough talking politico "Eli Gold" in The Good Wife. In addition to numerous television highlights, Cumming's took home the Tony Award for his performance in the 1981 revival, Cabaret. On the big screen, Cumming most recently starred in the film adaptation of The Smurfs and alongside renowned music artists Cher and Christina Aguilera inBurlesque. His past film credits include the film adaptation of William Shakespeare's The Tempest,Circle of Friends, X2: X-Men United, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, Goldeneye, Eyes Wide Shut, Titus, Emma, Dare and Sweet Land. With Jennifer Jason Leigh, he wrote, produced, directed and acted in The Anniversary Party.  

 

On Sunday, November 13th, Cumming will be on hand at the Denver Film Center/Colfax to introduce two of his films in celebration of their 10th Anniversary. Spy Kids will screen at 11am and is free for children under 12 accompanied by an adult. McDonald's will provide every child with a chocolate milk or apple juice and a coupon for a free Happy Meal. A Q&A led by Britta Erickson will follow the film. A free screening of Josie and The Pussycats begins at 11:30am and follows with a Q&A led by Watching Hour Programmer Keith Garcia.
